WTEYA has completed a classified wastewater treatment plant for the Danyang zero-carbon titanium alloy project in Jiangsu Province, China, delivered for Soleman Zero Carbon Technology (Danyang) Co., Ltd. The plant treats three separate production streams and discharges within the acceptance limits of the downstream municipal treatment works.

⚙️ Three Streams, Three Characteristics

Titanium alloy processing generates wastewater that behaves very differently from stream to stream. Pickling wastewater arrives acidic and metal-bearing at about 1.5 m³/d. Scrubber tower water, around 5 m³/d, carries similar pollutants at similar strength. The degreasing and emulsion rinse water, about 20 m³/d, contains emulsified oil along with COD, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and dissolved solids.


Because the pickling and scrubber streams are so alike, they share a treatment line designed for 6.5 m³/d. The oily stream is kept apart at 20 m³/d.

🔧 Classified Treatment Design

The pickling and scrubber line is deliberately simple: collection tank, neutralisation reactor, clean water tank and discharge tank. Neutralisation corrects pH and precipitates dissolved metals, after which the water is clear enough to release.


The degreasing and emulsion line does the harder work. Equalisation is followed by an integrated demulsification and air flotation unit, which destabilises the emulsion and lifts the released oil out of the water. An integrated Fenton reaction, coagulation and sedimentation unit then oxidises recalcitrant organics and settles out suspended solids. Biological treatment finishes the job, removing remaining organic matter along with total nitrogen and total phosphorus.


All three process stages are supplied as integrated skid-mounted units, which shortened site construction and keeps day-to-day operation straightforward.

Mixing the streams would have made every stage harder. Acid and heavy metals disturb biological treatment, and emulsified oil fouls oxidation and biological systems alike. By giving each stream the pre-treatment it needs, the plant protects the biological stage and holds discharge quality steady, rather than asking one process to cope with contradictory demands.

What types of wastewater does this plant treat?
Three streams from titanium alloy production: pickling wastewater (about 1.5 m³/d), scrubber tower water (about 5 m³/d) and degreasing plus emulsion rinse water (about 20 m³/d). The pickling and scrubber streams are combined at 6.5 m³/d, while the oily stream is treated separately at 20 m³/d.


Why is the emulsion stream treated separately?
Emulsified oil will not separate by gravity, and it interferes with neutralisation-based treatment. Treating it on its own line allows demulsification and air flotation to remove the oil first, which protects the Fenton and biological stages downstream.


Where does the treated water go?
Both treated streams meet in the discharge tank and are transferred to the downstream municipal wastewater treatment plant (Danyang Shicheng Wastewater Treatment Co., Ltd.) within its acceptance standards.
